DIY Book Wreath

Merry Christmas, everyone! I can’t believe another year has gone by already. I’ve made a lot of new memories this year and I hope that you guys can continue on with me in the new year because I have a lot more fun new releases!

Today’s post is going to be something that I haven’t done before here on this blog. I’m going to share how I made a book wreath. This is a perfect and inexpensive way to create something new out of something old and also wow your friends and family this holiday season.

Now because you come after me for ripping up a book, I’ll let you know now that the copy of WUTHERING HEIGHTS that I used was already falling apart and was very, very old. I have since then purchased a brand spankin’ new one to replace it, which is why I could repurpose the pages of this old one by making this book wreath.

You can use any book you want to make this. However, one tip is to pick a book that is already kind of old and ragged because it will be easier to rip apart. I think it adds to the rustic look and looks way more authentic, but you can pick according to what style you want. The paperback size is the best in my opinion because it won’t be so big. I’ve just chosen a classic book because I always associate WUTHERING HEIGHTS with the snowy weather. However, I have made a wreath out of my own books too!

The first step is to rip out the pages of the book. I pulled about 200-250 pages and rolled them into cones. This number will depend on how big you want your book wreath to be, so don’t be afraid to test and try things out.

When you’re done, you should have something that looks like this. I used simple tape to secure them and keep from unraveling, but you can use anything you want to make sure they are held together.

The next step is to staple the tip of the cones about an inch in. This will also help to ensure that your cones don’t unravel. But the staples will also help work as a guide to line up your wreath in the next step. Remember to keep the tip of the cones aligned and straight because this part will be visible on your wreath!

Now, on a piece of large cardboard, create two large circles inside of each other. For mine, I did 2 and 4 inches in diameter. However, if you are using a trade paperback for example, which is much larger, you may have to adjust the sizing to your liking. Cut only the large circle out, leaving the smaller one inside.

Using a hot glue gun, start to glue down the tips of the cones starting with the larger circle. Remember to use the staples you made as a guide to keep all the edges straight around the circumference.

Do the same for the smaller circle inside until the wreath is filled with cones. Depending on the size of your book, you may have to do two or three rows. Mine had three.

There will be a bit of spacing in the center of the wreath. I put some Christmas ornaments in the center to hide the staples. But you can put ribbon or flowers, or really anything you want.

Then, once it’s dry, flip it around, secure some rope or ribbon at the back so that you can hang it and voila, you’re done!

If you end up trying it, please let me know and share your pictures with me! You can always tag me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. I would love to see your take on the book wreath!

As always, I wish you all the best this holiday season. See you very soon in the new year! In the meantime, don’t forget to catch up on the Moonrise Beach series!
